Why can't I convert =IF(COUNTIF(Email:Email, Email1) > 1, 1) to a Column Formula?

Brand new to this app. My formula:

You cannot convert a formula to a column formula if it contains a direct cell reference. In your case it's Email1. You would only be able to do it if it was Email@row
