Cannot add cell values generated by formula

I have tried to add cell values to each other, where they are created by a formula they just add to each other ie.

column 1 cell 1= 1

column 2 cell 1 = 2

total = 12 (should be 3)!!!!

what formula should I use?

Hi @Dan Harris ,

Smartsheet is treating your cells as text instead of numbers. If you can't figure out why, use the VALUE() function to correct it. In your cells start the formula with =VALUE(...)
