Drop-down values from another sheet

Is there a way I can refer the drop-down values for a field to the data on another sheet?

Hi @SSK_REGN
Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment, but it's an excellent idea!

There might be a possible workaround.
Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)
I hope that helps!

I have a sheet for storing Resources on a project.. see below:
I have another sheet to capture their timesheet info. See below:
So, when the resource wants to enter the data into the timesheet, I would like to have the Resource Name in the second sheet to be driven by the list of values in the same column of the 1st sheet.
This is a very useful and common requirement for many such systems used in Enterprises. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Yes, If I understand you correctly, you can use cross-sheet formulas and either a VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH combination to collect the information.
Would that work?

But these formulae ( VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH) only help to validate the data after the fact, right? I am thinking of having the LOV as the drop-down for that column in second sheet so they can choose the right one.
Or, am I missing something?

Yes, but if we have a dropdown list to select from, we can collect the other sheet's information.
Make sense, or do I misunderstand what you need?

The need is to generate the drop-down list for the second sheet from the values on the first sheet.
-
Ok. Then you'd need to use one of the following options.
- The premium add-on, Data Uploader
More info:
- Smartsheet API
- 3rd party solution

Thanks Andree. Does the Uploader has the capability to dynamically sync data between two or more sheets so that a drop-down list for one field in one sheet can be driven automatically using the values of a column from another sheet?
-
Happy to help!
If I understand your questions correctly, no, but it can update the dropdown list selections in multiple places when run.
Make sense?
Would that work?

Hello there
I saw the comment on this post back from 2020.
Do you know if the requirement (similar to Microsoft Excel Data Validation feature, where user can select in drop down list info from another table) has been scheduled as an enhancement request?
Thank you very much

Hi @JF Cornet
I hope you're well and safe!
It surely has, but the more that submits it, the higher up on Smartsheet's radar it becomes.
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
I hope that helps!
