Summary data populated from column entries
Is there a way to automatically populate summary data fields based on the entries in a particular column, rather than having to identify all of the unique values and add summary fields one by one? For example, column 1 contains multiple instances of person 1, person 2, person 3, etc, and column 2 contains numeric values which I want to sum for each different person. The people listed in column 1 will change over time, but I don't want to have to update the summary data fields each time someone new is listed. I realise there's a new feature in reports for grouping data, but I want to create graphs in dashboards relating to this summary data.
Thanks,
David

Hi @David Hull
You can link/reference the cells in the contact column to the Sheet Summary section, so the contacts are updated automatically.
Something like this.
Contact 1 (linked)
Numbers (formula referencing the above field)
Make sense?
Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic weekend!

Hello Andrée. Thanks for responding so quickly.
Unfortunately, this column isn't a contact list (I was just using a list of people to illustrate the issue). The data is being imported from a different source, and the list of values in the column will be different each time it is imported. So what I was wanting to do was to automatically identify the unique values in the column, and create summary data for each of them.
Thanks,
David

You're more than welcome!
There's probably a solution for what you need.
Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)
