Using API to extract attachments for offsite storage

Is anyone using the API to extract documents from Smartsheet to store offline so they don't get deleted or for long term storage?

We had a user accidently delete hundreds of documents from a sheet and obviously, this can be resolved with training. Additionally, there could be functionality added to only allow Editors to not delete docs but edit content.

But I think I would like to pursue using APIs to put them in long term storage. Anyone doing this?

While I have not attempted this myself, in reviewing the API Documentation it does appear that "Get Attachment" calls are doable: https://smartsheet-platform.github.io/api-docs/#get-attachment

I highly recommend Submitting a Product Enhancement Request for the ability to set attachment-level permissions on sheets along with the overall sharing permissions that designate what actions a user can perform within a sheet itself. Additionally, if you ever run into this scenario again, don't hesitate to contact the Support Team as they may be able to recover deleted attachments and restore them back to your sheet.
