Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)

Thanks for your quick response. I am using the update request function: both in automation and on the sheet itself (tools to the right). I have to have a row selected and smartsheet develops the request based on updates to that row. Sometimes I will need rows added to the sheet but the requests continue to be based on the row selected originally. Is there anyway to get around that?

Yes, but you'd need to use an Automated Update Request Workflow instead.

Even the automated update seems to concentrate on row numbers. I cannot make it just accept that items in the sheet in general will be updated.

Hi. I think the automated reminder is going to do what I need it to do. It will send the link to the sheet with the columns that need to be updated. I am still testing. But it looks like what I need.
