Using INDEX to get Project Plan data dynamically

Options

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask if there is a way to extract data from Summary or the Sheet at itself using some kind of INDEX formulas.

The use case is that we have an Intake Project Sheet that generates an automatic ID (https://share.getcloudapp.com/DOu2DQgD). Once the project is approved, we generate a project plan. This project plan has information that we want to put in a metadata report. The question is that if we are able to extract info from that work plan using a Project ID so we can extract the summary data and put in the rows

Some additional information on this:

1. We have a Master sheet that has some data using INDEX and referencing the sheet.

2. The issue is that if row 1 comes from Project Plan A, how can we get dynamically values from the Project Plan? Something like using INDEX with Project Plan A ID and then get dynamically such value.

3. Moreover, what happens if the data that I want to extract are in a Project Summary (Summary from Project Plan A) and put it in row 1.

Appreciated your help :) 😊

    Hi @Angel Hernandez

I hope you're well and safe!

Unfortunately, it's not possible now to dynamically reference information from it that way, but it's an excellent idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

    Two options come to mind.

How many projects will you manage on a monthly/yearly basis?

1 The Smartsheet Premium App, Control Center (Automatic)

A solution that would be perfect for this use-case is the premium add-on, Control Center.

    More info:

2 You'd use a so-called helper sheet / MetaData Sheet with cell linking. (Manual)

In short. You'd start up a new project, but the information in the project plan would be cell linked to the helper sheet (could also be a lookup), so for each project, you'd cell-link the information from the Intake project to the specific helper sheet that would already be cell-linked to the project plan (both in and out).

    Make sense?

Would any of those options work/help?

    I hope that helps!

Be safe and have a fantastic weekend!
