Colunm Type Selection: Can't Change!!

Question I need to change several columns prosperities to a different column type symbol selection. All I want to do is change it from the one checked mark below to RYGG Balls with 3 colors (red, yellow & green) but it won't let me. I have conditional formatting and I don't want to do this all over again. Why can't I select this change? Please tell it's possible. Any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment, but it's an excellent idea!

Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.

As a possible workaround, you could add a so-called helper column and change the conditional formatting rules to reference that and make updates and then change it back.
