Sorting a Filter

I am always wanting to sort after I filter, but the option for sorting is greyed out when I have a filter applied. I feel like this is an ordinary function so what am I missing?  It must be something incredibly obvious that I'm overlooking.

 

To give an example, I filter the projects to eliminate any status which is "complete". Then, I'd like to sort the result by the person responsible. I know that I can add filters to narrow down a search, but I actually want to see all of the projects which are active for the whole team.

We have this problem all the time. The fix is to sort the data first, and then apply your filter.

Thank you, Erin!  I knew there had to be something simple I was overlooking. This will be so much better than exporting to Excel all the time...which is how I have been doing it
