Error: Cross-sheet formula can't be updated."# Calculating" When using cell linking function

Hello Friends,

Please assist to fix below error.

I have prepared a master sheet from multiple sheets using cell linking function. It was working fine all these days, but now it is showing me error as below highlighted.

Do you know what is the reason & how can i fix this.

#CALCULATING isn't exactly an error. It just means it is taking longer to run the calculations. If you have a lot going on with cell links, cross sheet references, conditional formatting, and/or automations, any one of these things could cause a sheet to slow down.

  • Hello Paul,

    Thanks for your response.

Unfortunately all those cells are still showing "#calculating", from 2 days now.

I do have lot of automation, cross sheet reference in my sheets (Multiple sheets). If this cause slowing down the functions, then i have no clue how to fix it.

Try logging out, clearing your cookies and cache, then logging back in. Maybe even try using a different browser.

Depending on your exact setup and formulas, there may be ways to make things a little more efficient, but that would require evaluating all of your formulas and how they work together.

If you would like to post a few at a time here, I'd be happy to take a look at them to see if there is anything I can do to help.

  • I tried the same, but no luck again.

I would like to know is there any limitation in attaching files in each rows.

Currently I have 11 sheets those are linked to each other & at the same time it has attachments in each rows multiplied by each sheets.

I am not sure how much attachments will affect sheet speed. @Andrée Starå may be able to provide more insight on that.

  • @Paul Newcome @Andrée Starå , was there ever an answer to files slowing down sheet speed? I have the same issues, i'm running into cross-reference maxes and its exceptionally frustrating b/c I've tried to minimize the references and streamline formulas. Even created several seperate calculating sheets to reduce the amount of information on our main tracking sheet. But it still won't work. The data displays in my main row sheet, but any report or attempt to export still displays #CALCULATING. Is there an option for more server space purchases, etc? We'd like to expand our use of Smartsheet but right now it's not able to handle even one department of our workload and we have at least 7 more to go.
