No luck color coding headings for various row levels
Hi,
Once you select "dependencies" on a sheet, it says that the top level rows are supposed to be shaded in grey. This is not happening for me. I also wanted to conditionally format so that various levels have a particular background color. I know it can be done because someone at SmartSheet once showed me - but it's been months and I don't remember what they did. I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks for any help!
Screenshot of relevant columns in sheet are attached.

Hi Mary,
Can you please provide a screenshot of your conditional formatting? This may help solve the mystery.
Thanks,
Heather

Hi, Heather, I was unable to figure out how to do the conditional formatting, as I can't find a choice for row level. It's not in the list of items and I don't know how to refer to the top level or the second level, etc.
Maybe it is a formula that needs to do this, not conditional formatting? I don't know.
Thanks for responding!

Hi @Mary Vogt
I hope you're well and safe!
Try something like this. Add it to a so-called helper column called Level.
=IF(COUNT(CHILDREN([Task Name]@row)) > 0; COUNT(ANCESTORS()) + 1)
Depending on your country/region, you'll need to exchange the comma to a period and the semi-colon to a comma.
Did that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic week!

Hi, thanks for your help, but it says "unparsible" and I don't see where that formula tells which rows to change color - where is the color indicated?

Happy to help!
You'd combine it with conditional formatting.
I'd be happy to take a quick look.
Can you maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s)? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)

Thanks so much for your help. That's great - and taught me something.
Only now, it won't let me edit the column formula. How do you edit a column forumla? I've tried clicking on the fx and right clicking but I can't get to it. I wanted to copy it to add the solution here to help others. Thank you!
Mary
