Dashboard Widget - Works in Preview, but not in Prod
Hello All, hope everyone is doing well.
I have a Dashboard widget based on a Report that shows the correct formatted data in the preview, but once published shows the unhappy error of 'The source data for this chart has been changed". I am "Admin" of the Dashboard, the Report, and the backend sheet the data is sourced from.
I have included screenshots below and can provide additional data or screenshots upon request. Appreciate the help in advanced! :-)

It looks like you're using a Report with Grouping as the source for your chart, is that correct? If so, currently only the base rows will be visible from a dashboard if the report is embedded through a Chart Widget or Report Widget. (See: Configure Grouping to Organize Results in Report Builder.)
Our Product Team is working on being able to support the Grouped data in a Chart Widget, but this hasn't been released yet.
Instead, you can either Publish the Report and use a Web Content Widget to embed the rollup into the Dashboard, or you could create a helper-sheet with cross-sheet formulas to create numerical calculations as the source for your chart. This Webinar goes through how to gather data for Dashboards, see here: Dashboards part 1 - Preparing data.
Let me know if you need help with either of these options!
Cheers,
Genevieve

Hey @Genevieve P,
Any general timeframe on the release for supporting grouped data and summarized report data on a Dashboard? Will calendar view and being able to assign the display column(s) be part of that?
-
I don't have an ETA for this release, but you can subscribe to our Release Notes page (here) to make sure you're notified when we have an update.
I'm not sure what you mean by the second question; if you're looking to display a Report as a Calendar in a Dashboard, you can do this by creating a Published Link of the Report, then using this link as a Web Content Widget. As long as you have selected the Published link's default view to be "Calendar" it will appear as a Calendar in your Dashboard. Is this what you were looking to do?
Cheers,
Genevieve

@Genevieve P, thank you for the quick response! Looking forward to the release.

Apologies! On the Calendar I was referencing that only the Primary Column shows up in Calendar view from a report or sheet. I was wondering if assigning a different or multiple columns to display in Calendar view will be possible soon. Its often that I need to display a sorted Report in Calendar view on a dashboard but I need to show a different column than Primary.
Thank you for the link to the Release Notes page!

Thanks for clarifying! I don't believe this will be updated with the release of Report grouping features in dashboards, but it would be good if you could let our Product Team know this is something that would be useful for you (by filling in this form, here).
The alternate solution I've implemented before is to have the Primary Column be a formula which adds together the different cells across the row that I want to see displayed in the Calendar view. You can hide this column in the source sheet and use a different column as the "primary" without it actually being the primary. Let me know if you want to see an example of this!
🙂

That may work really well for what I need to display. I'll test it out, thank you!
I will also submit an Enhancement request as suggested.

Hi @Jayson Coulter and @Felicia Robinson
This feature has now been released! You can now create Chart Widgets from the top Summary rows from a Grouped Report. See: Charting using Grouping and Summary

Genevieve
