Report for when a column has been modified in last X days?

Hi all, starting with a sheet that includes all marketing tactics for all of our projects, I'd like to build a report that rolls up every row that has had column "Designer" modified in the last X days. Is that possible? I can't figure out how to do so. I cannot add any formulas or conditional formatting to the master sheet to flag when this column is modified - I need to figure out a way to build a report on my end.

Thanks in advance!

  • I think you would need to add another column (you could hide it?) that is checked when "Designer" is modified in the last X days and query on that.

What type of column is Designer? If it is a date, maybe try checking out the "When?" section in the report builder and use "in the last (days)"

Unfortunately thats all I can think of at the moment.

    Jaye,

I think I read your question differently than Benjamin did.

There is currently no way to build a formula on the sheet that looks at the cell history for a specific cell or column.

We are still limited by looking at when the entire row is modified.

If you need to see cell history like this, then you may require a direct API interface.

Depending on the contents of the [Designer] column, my post on determingt the completion date (http://ronin-global.com/2016/12/11/smartsheet-fixed-date-upon-completion/) might be modified to fit. Or not.

    That solution assumes:

    1. The date is empty and needs to be filled (not needs to be updated)

    2. The input is binary (not checked to checked)

There is nothing in either Smartsheet's GUI or Zapier that 'remembers' allowing the last pass value to compared to the current pass value (ie, watch for a change to a specific cell). Again, that may require the API.

I've heard rumors or maybe it was a dream, that there might be something on the horizon that would allow a last pass value solution to be achieved, but it is one of those things that feels "unreal" when I think about it like echoes of a Gedanken Experiment discussed over burgers and wine.

Hi Benjamin, I did think of that but we'd prefer to not have to make any changes whatsoever to the master sheet. I do agree with you though, that this may be the only solution. The 'Designer' column is a drop-down of names - what my team needs to know is not which name is selected, but the date that a name is added (currently projects sit with no designer assigned at entry - my team needs to know the date a designer has been assigned as we're concerned with how long each stage of our projects are). I think this may be the only way; I'll run it by the sheet owner.

Hi Craig!!! :) I would LOVE the ability to have a report that shows me the value of a particular column's cells as well as a second column that shows me the cell history, or at least the time stamp of the last modification. Hopefully one day!

The only other solution I could think of is to pull a report with ALL of the sheet's rows - aka the "'Designer' column is not empty" and then get highlights for modified in the last X days. But, my concern there is that then we can't sort the results by date of modification (as other columns are modified daily, too).

Thanks to you both, I think I'll have to go with adding a checkbox column on the original sheet!
