Hi

We have a defect tracker in a production environment, where non-smartsheet users capture defects by using a Form. The form updates a register.

When these defects are rectified, we would like to update the register as 'done' but we would like to do this via a form.

Any ideas on how?

You could maybe use cross-sheet formulas combined with either a VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH structure to connect the sheet to a so-called helper sheet that the form would submit to.

Make sense?

Sounds like a good use case for Dynamic Views. From what I understand you're trying to do, you have a form to enter a new defect, but to rectify the defect, you want a user to be able to pick an item from the log and enter a status. Dynamic Views would solve this. It's a premium addon, so you'd have to talk to someone from Smartsheet to purchase it.

We are using Dynamic Views for a very similar workflow to yours.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to publish a Dynamic View, and it has to be shared with the users. They also need to have a Smartsheet Account and login, but it's an excellent idea!

@Jamesvan5 does the user in this scenario "you want a user to be able to pick an item from the log and enter a status." need a smartsheet login? Or can it be accessed from a published dashboard? We have a large number of factory workers and cannot have each with a login etc.
