How do you gather requirements for dashboards?

I'm in the process of designing a few dashboards and associates sheets/forms/etc for my team.
I'm curious how others go about gathering and documenting their teams' requirements. I do have a process flow diagram for our overall process, and that helps me understand what we would like to measure, but do you ask your teams for input on what they would like to see?

I generally start with what I know we need to show, put it all together, then give it to the team for their feedback and suggestions on changes. This helps them get at least a visual starting point that they can all work from.
