A good solution that I have found to work for this in a semi automated way is to use filters. You would need both predecessors and successors linked. You would put the line number of the task you want to track in the top row. It will then display all the predecessors that impact the date of that task. Additionally, there is an option to then display the predecessors that are not completed or in progress.
