Keep getting "Selected data cannot be charted please select new range" error. Help!
My first time creating a dashboard and getting error "Selected data cannot be charted please select new range" whether trying to add data from a report or from a sheet. Please advice! I am untrained thus far!

I keep getting "Select data cannot be cannot be charted" I am trying to chart completion status of the project. This should be very simple instead it has become obsurdly frustrating

I finally got it. I had to unselect the sheet name column from the report. I knew I was missing something VERY simple!

I just selected 2 columns from my sheet but is still getting the error. any help please?

Charts require numerical data. It looks like the two columns you're selecting only have text in them, not a summary of the data.
What I would personally do here is use a Report to show just the two columns you want, then Group and Summarize the columns to generate the data/numbers you want to chart. Here's more information: Redesigned Reports with Grouping and Summary Functions

@Genevieve P. thanks so much! i used excel to work on my data and got a pie chart finally! here's my data sheet now:
i'll check on the grouping and summary functions in smartsheet when I have some spare time but for now. i'm just happy that i managed to get the pie chart on the dashboard!
