Trigger Approval Request with the submission of an Update Request

Hi

I have an approval process which sorta works well which allows an approver to decline a request asking for more information. The re-trigger to the original approval workflow is based on the user updating a 'different' do you want to continue? field in the update request form.

The 'different' field is then used as the trigger to restart the workflow. As long as they update that field (in this case it from NO to YES, it works no problem. My issue is, some users simply click the submit update field without making any updates to the field I want them to update. The request is then stuck.

Is there any way to link a re-trigger to the actual SUBMIT UPDATE button in the update request?

Thanks

You could leverage the "Delete Cell Content" automation to remove their initial "response" from the yes/no field. Having this triggered when the approval status changes to declined should do the trick.

Good idea, that would work, yes. My main issue is them just clicking the SUBMIT UPDATE button on the update request without making any changes to any fields.

So we can send them a reminder that they need to update everything appropriately. If you leverage the Delete Cell Content automation, you could have a second Update Request send to the user triggered when the approval status changes to submitted but the yes/no field is blank. Something like...

    "HEY!!! DO IT RIGHT!!!"

Hahaha. Maybe not that exactly, but that's the idea behind it. Don't necessarily say which field triggers that second update request. Just tell them that they forgot to update "something". They will be more likely to fill everything out at that point to make sure they don't get another reminder and have to go through it all over again.

Thanks Paul. I design a process and workflow and then always have to figure out how people can find a way to make it go wrong.

No worries. If it can go wrong, it will. Haha
