Filter based off parent row

I would like to be able to show results based off parent row information. For instance, I have a column that is called Document Type and a column that is a checkbox for mailings and if I have a checkbox in several children rows I want to be able to filter from the Document Type in the parent row. Is this possible? I can't figure it out.

Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)
