Formula help to match contains

Hello!

I have 2 sheets:

Sheet 1 contains [UserId] column

Sheet 2 contains [Assosiated User] and [Machine Name] columns

I need to Use [UserId] to look up if [Associated User] contains text to match [UserId] and return the value of [Machine Name] at row

Just cannot seem to figure it out. Any help is appreciated!

To add to Jason's excellent advice/answer.

Another option could be an INDEX/MATCH structure instead. I prefer this option.

Do you have the UserId on both sheets to use to match and get the value you want?

Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)

I have a column [Assosiated User] that CONTAINS it but it would not be the only data within that column. The contains was the part that was messing me up.

Yes I was using INDEX/MATCH but cannot figure out CONTAINS for the  [Assosiated User] that contains data to match to [UserId]

I was trying to put in a Wildcard to match [Userid] at row.

=IFERROR(INDEX({VDA Assos User}, MATCH("*"UserId@row, {VDAMIS}, 0)), "")

{VDA Assos User} = Sheet 2 contains [Assosiated User]

{VDAMIS} = Sheet 2 [Machine Name]

Any tips?
