Scatter Chart Design Troubles
Hi All!
Struggling with how to configure a scatter plot to match what was showcased in the launch (specifically how they're referencing the x & y in the tag)
Here's my data in excel with a matching scatter chart:
My data in Smartsheet with chart:
I'm not sure what combination of chart settings that will allow me to plot out values that intersect at Effort and Value like the showcase chart displays:
@Genevieve P. can you shed some light? Thanks!

My apologies for the delay! So Scatter Charts will work with data that you would use in a Line Chart. There currently isn't a way to select a Primary Column (or text/number column) to be value labels for each individual dot.
You could make the X-axis non-numeric which would show you the value and effort per-project:
But to have the X-Axis be your Effort, this would need to be the first column selected and Value be the second column (without Project selected). Then you set the first column as Series Labels (making it the X-Axis).
The optional label that appears within the chart would be the Value label, versus the project name. Does that make sense?
Please leave your feedback on Scatter Charts either as a comment on this Community announcement post or through the Product Feedback form, here.
Thank you!
Genevieve

@Genevieve P. thanks for the reply and walkthrough! I was able to produce a similar chart like yours. The release notes sample had led me to believe that we would be able to display the points of intersection for series of data (which would be great!) but doesn't sound like that feature isn't available yet. Are there any other alternate configurations that I'm missing? Thanks!

I'm glad you were able to produce something similar!
I don't believe you're missing anything... I've submitted feedback about being able to label the points of intersection with a third column but it's always good to add in more voices to feature requests, if you have a moment.
Thanks!

For my scatter plots the chart will show the plot initially, then the widget always forgets the data sheet and gives the "unable to display chart error". Has anyone else had this error or have your scatter plots functioned properly in the widgets?

@Ronald Joseph - I have. I reviewed how my data was setup in the metric sheet and made some changes based off reviewing the Create a Chart for a dashboard page: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/2482274-create-a-chart-for-a-dashboard
I found that it didn't like my Date column (see Column Types) at the bottom of the above page. So I converted the Dates to text and then got things working.

@Chris Mondeau found this question today looking to do the exact same thing as you, super sad to see they haven't fixed this yet...

Searching for this 2 points today, how to create the scatter chart just like excel and why it is generating my the "unable to display chart error"...
I guess I will have to try to show my data in a different format.
