Update a date field when the status in another column changes

Hi there,

I need to have a date field update whenever I change the value in a dropdown field in another column. Can you help me with that? I'm very new to Smartsheet and the answers I've seen in similar questions are a bit over my head with the level of detail. If there are step by step instructions somewhere that would be amazing.

Have you looked into the Record A Date Automation yet? Basically it will record the date whenever specific action occurs.

Thanks for that recommendation! I just tried that, and it doesn't seem to be working. If it's working properly, should it start working right away or is there a time lag? Do I need to do anything to activate the workflow or is it supposed to go into effect right away?

You would need to save the sheet before the automation will trigger, and (if I remember correctly) it usually is within a few seconds that it will update but I think SS documentation indicates that it could be up to 15 minutes for an automation to trigger.
