Populate a cells value with the previous value of another cell

I am looking to have a rolling history of values. I want the cell to the right to have the previous value of the cell to the left. In other words, if I update the left cell, I want the left cells old value to move over the right cell? I cant seem to find a way to do this.

I know the cell shows the history by right clicking on it, but it would be nice to have it at a glance without taking any action.

I think you might be able to set up an automation for that! With Change a cells value, and the trigger every time you change your left cell it updates the right cell to the previous value. Or if you are constantly updating the left cell and want to see the full history, another solution might be to use the automation, Copy to another sheet, with the same trigger. Then you could build a report to show you all the old values. Those options might work?
