Using the same column in more than one sheet.

I have one sheet created of active projects with columns such as project name and department. I need to create another sheet that will have mostly different information but the project list and departments are the same (both are drop downs). Instead of recreating these columns, can I reference these columns in the new list? This is not inserting a value based on a selection in the column of first sheet but having the same drop down lists in both sheets (one column in use on two sheets) so when a new item is added to the drop down of the project list in the first sheet, then it is shown as an option in the second sheet because essentially it is the same column. Does that make sense and can I do that?
