Locking a Single Cell

Is there a way to lock a single cell instead of an entire row / column? I do not want to lock the users from entering data on the entire row / column, but I do want to protect a formula(s) in certain cells.

Hello,

There currently isn't a way to lock a single cell in Smartsheet. What you might consider doing is creating a report for your other collaborators to work with. They can still edit data, but can't edit formulas in a report. More on creating reports here: https://help.smartsheet.com/articles/522214-creating-reports

I vote for this feature, too. Experiencing the same issue, and a report is not the answer in this case.

I also vote for this capability; the ability to lock cells independent from a column or row lock. PM methodologies based on the phase of the project require this type of capability.

Right solution is devolopping locking cell feature not to advise creating reports. Because it isn't not a pratical solution. +1 vote for this important feature.

I have a bunch of formulas in the parent rows that I'd like to lock but there's one cell that I'd like to use for controlling the rest. (Type N/A in cell 2 & all the formulas change to N/A)

It's much easier to trust users not to break the formulas than to set everything up as a separate report but it would be great to be able to lock individual cells. In this particular case, just locking all formulas on the page would be useful. Even requiring a confirmation before editing formulas would be preferable.

I can see, from a UI perspective, why it's done this way. You can clearly see when a row is locked because of the icon on the left. There's no easy way to display the same information on individual cells and that wouldn't be wanted in most cases either.

Still, locking cells seems like an important feature to include. If the previous suggestions aren't feasible (lock/protect all formulas), another option might be a 'locked cell mode'. In normal mode, locked cells show no visual difference but cannot be edited. In 'locked cell mode', locked cells are highlighted, can temporarily be edited, and can be locked & unlocked. That would make things clear and easy for users, though probably not particularly easy on the back end.

There must be a solution for these use cases one way or another.

It seems to have been over a year and we still cannot lock single cells. I would like to add my vote to this request.

An important feature for me, too.  some cells have formulas, others are open for data entry.  I need to protect the formula cells from inadvertent data entry.

Would even help to be able to lock entire rows, but that doesn't seem to work even if I select the option to lock rows.  I must be missing something obvious.
