How do I filter a report so that it shows only 1) a parent row, along with 2) the last child row

I have a Master Project list. I'd like to run a report on it that shows:

1. Only the projects whose status is "Active". Easy enough to accomplish with a filter.

But I would also like to reduce it to show:

1. Only the parent row of "Active" projects --- along with...
2. the last child row that has any data in it

Is this possible? It sure would make my life much easier!

You would need to create a helper column on the source sheet with a formula to automatically check a box on the last child row as well as on the parent row where any of the children are checked. From there you would create your report to show only rows where the box has been checked.
