Is there a way to edit a template directly rather than creating a new one?

It seems like it would be relatively simple to program a way to directly edit templates rather than having the user edit a sheet and then create a new template. Not only would that unclutter the folder because the user would not have to keep a clean sheet from which to create future templates, it would also reduce friction.

Bonus points if there were a way to update all sheets made from a template when the template is updated. That seems harder to program, though.
