LEN Function- Count Incorrect

I am trying to get a character count from two rows in a content calendar " Copy" + "Link". I have it adding up correctly, except I am getting a value of 1 in the blank cells.

Formula is: =LEN([Social Copy]@row + Link@row)

you can solve this by changing to the below: (seems like it is counting the 'cell separator')

=LEN([Social Copy]@row) + LEN(Link@row)
