Elapsed Date Thingamabob?

I am new to smartsheet and I have a lot to learn. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I am looking for a way to send a notification if the "approved" column is blank and 10 days have elapsed since the date in the "Date submitted" column. I have been working on this for at least 3 hours and I have not found anything that would help. TIA.

In your workflow, have the conditions set to "Approved" is blank and "Date Submitted" is not in the last 10 days.

In order to trigger the notification you can either run the automation daily at a set time and then set the conditions that "Approved" is blank and "Date Submitted" "is not in the last (days)" (enter 10)

-or- 

You could create a column for "Approve by date" which equals Submit Date +10

Then you set your trigger on the "Approve by Date"
