How am I able to exclude weekends in a formula to return a number and not a date?

Hello,

I need to write a formula that calculates how many days it takes to complete a PO from the time it is received., but I want it to exclude weekends. I have seen the WORKDAY function, but I am not trying to return a date. I am trying to return a number. My current formula is a simple subtraction formula. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you all for your time!
