Custom Form URL string

Are there limitations to the Form URL custom string as it relates to the column type? I can get it to work for TEXT column, but cannot make it happy for a Contact List column. I would like to have a Contact List so as to carry it over to my statistics, but instead of them selecting their name from the drop down, I would like to provide all ~30'ish people their own custom Form URL link.

Thanks. I have read through the Help Articles and have actually used the URL custom fields in the past, however, I just cannot get it to work if the column is defined as a Contact List, with a list a people within. If it is a text field, it works just fine.
