Update request not showing any editable fields for a sheet editor
I have set up automation to send an update request for open items at the beginning of each week. One of my team gets the update request just fine but everything shows as display only. Not one thing is editable so it's useless.
I've verified she's correctly set up as an editor to the sheet (and she's an editor to the workspace for that matter) so I cannot figure out what's going wrong.
Other ideas to try??

Are those columns/rows locked, or are there any formulas in the field?
-
No locked columns/rows and no formulas. It's a super vanilla sheet... 🤔
-
It is also being sent to anyone else at the same time?

It is not being sent to anyone else at the same time. Stumped.

You may need to reach out to support on this one unfortunately.

Thanks so much and wish me luck!

Dear Anna,
Have you figured out why this happend? I have exactly the same problem: I have configured a workflow that automatically sends out an update request to a certain person when a certain condition is given. The person successfully receives the email notification requesting the update, but is not able to edit any column (The columns are displayed but simply not editable).
The person has edit rights for the certain sheet and the columns that should be updated are as well not locked.
I would be super happy for any advice :)
Best,
Damian

Hi @DamianK
I hope you're well and safe!
Which Smartsheet plan do you and the receiver have?
Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

Thanks for reaching out! Myself and the receiver are part of the same Smartsheet account which has the "Business" Plan.
In the meantime, I tested the following further options:
- Option 1: The receiver has edit rights for the workspace (and the sheet) and is not a licensed user --> It doesn't work, i.e. the receiver is unable to update the needed fields.
- Option 2: The receiver has edit rights for the workspace (and the sheet) and is a licensed user --> It doesn't work, i.e. the receiver is unable to update the needed fields.
- Option 3: The receiver has admin rights for the workspace (and the sheet) and is a licensed user --> It does work, i.e. the receiver is able to update the needed fields.
Many thanks in advance for any further advice!
Best,
Damian

Happy to help!
- What fields are you asking for an update on?
- Do they contain formulas?
- Are the rows locked

It's only one Text field. It doesn't contain any formula and the row is not locked....

@DamianK Are you positive you are sending out an update request and not an Alert? Are you able to provide a screenshot of the automation setup and possibly a screenshot of what the end user sees?
-
Strange!
Can you maybe share some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help.

Good thinking! Let's see what the screenshots look like.
@DamianK Please include a screenshot of the workflow too.

Dear @Andrée Starå & @Paul Newcome
I am super sorry, I made a stupid mistake!
The information I provided above is true, but I forgot about an additional workflow which is locking the entire row, when a certain condition is given. Unfortunately, the trigger for this second workflow happens (in any case) prior to the trigger for the update request and therefore, the entire row is locked when the update request is sent out...
I adjusted now the triggers of these two workflows and now it works.
Sorry for any caused confusion and thanks for your help / advice!
Best,
Damian
