Need a way to copy and paste columns from one "standard columns" sheet to new sheets. This would be similar to a template but more flexible.
I would like to be able to copy or insert a new column into multiple sheets. This would be a similar concept to copying the summary across multiple sheets.
agree! I'd like to even be able to do it within a sheet - often my new column already has a like column in the same sheet.
Ability to duplicate existing column aka copy and paste entire column to a new column.
There could be many use cases but jus one that is very common:
Users may have dashboards built for fiscal years. Now if there are multiple metrics widgets that display values from columns for current fiscal year quarters then for the next fiscal year instead going through the pain of recreating the metrics widgets for the new fiscal year quarters, it will be great if we can instead reuse existing columns by renaming them and moving the data for past fiscal year to new columns in the sheet. To move the data the copy/paste or duplicate column functionality will be very helpful.
Yes, especially contact list columns. We have a master directory column in a database that has all of our company's contacts. We need these same contacts to be on different forms across different sheets. We need a way to have these contacts copied and pasted over to those sheets.
PS. Please add a visibility checkbox to the contact list column so that it can display contact names or contact emails depending on preference.
THe issue is now that sometimes contact columns display names or emails, depending if names have been associated with them. We need them sometimes to be displayed as emails though so we can copy paste those emails. If they are with names, only names can copy and paste.
We love the idea of being able to leverage column definitions more easily and widely within your Smartsheet solutions. The ability to duplicate a column and its properties within the same sheet is on our roadmap and the ability to copy a column definition across sheets is on our radar as something we are exploring for the future.
This also relates to an already submitted idea for dynamic dropdowns (used to centrally define column properties for reuse across multiple solutions). Please take a look up-vote and comment as you like: https://community.smartsheet.com/discussion/92421/dynamic-dropdowns
I 100% agree, now lets see if they actually listen to our ideas and implement them.🤔

The ability to copy a column with properties.
Please add this functionality
The ability to copy a column that would carry over the column type, dropdown options and column description. Thus only requiring to give the column a unique name.
I use sheets with columns to indicate availability for particular days, with four dropdown options. Each time I add a new date, I have to insert a column, format as dropdown, add the dropdown options, and add the column description. Since all columns have the same dropdown options and same description, it would be very helpful to copy a column and give the new column a unique name.
When will this be implemented?
The ability to easily insert several new columns at once without needing to describe them would be a huge time saver. Similarly, being able to copy and paste columns. This feature is so easy in excel but takes ages in smartsheet.
Glad this was already posted and ready to be voted on! Hope it's implemented soon!
When creating similar columns, it would be nice to be able to copy a column and paste it to the right or left of a column (like in Excel). I do realize the name has to be different, though it already prompts you to change it if there is another one with an identical name.
This would be a timesaver with setting all of the column details and dropdowns.
Hi
Due to the capacity restraints we have multiples of specific sheets and when we introduce a new column it would be amazing to be able to copy the column and paste or add it to the other sheets!
Properties and structure, not the content.
Fingers crossed!
Thank you.

Why is copying a column such a sophisticated idea for SS to get? There are numerous requests, well over 1.5 years in age..
