HELP! How do I get row updates from a request copied to another sheet?

Hi Team,

I'm new to Smartsheet and initially created a build that may not have been the best. I built my request management master sheet and copied requests to Department 1 for assigned PMs to work. Unfortunately once the row was copied, the master sheet was not updated. Now projects have ended (and moved to either a completed or closed sheet) but they're still showing active on my master sheet. How to find where the request is currently located and update my master sheet with the appropriate statuses (Project status, start date, completion date)?

Smartsheet support had me use an INDEX MATCH formula painstakingly adding it to each cell to be updated. This seems like a tedious solution. Help please!!!

Best, Sancta

    Hi @Sancta Watley,

Index/Match is probably your best, and maybe only, solution. Grids don't have relationships to other grids to where either would know which row from one grid would tie to a row from another grid.

The best you can do is match a value, or multiple values (criteria), on each grid using cross sheet references and index/match. Otherwise you're stuck manually adding cell links between grids.

I use Index/Match especially when I want a column formula. If I only have a couple cells to reference, I just manually cell-link them.

    All the best,

    -Ray

    Hi @Sancta Watley

I hope you're well and safe!

I'd recommend staying with INDEX/MATCH, or another option would be the Premium App, Data Mesh.

    Is that an option?

    I hope that helps!

Be safe, and have a fantastic week!

Thanks Ray and Andree! Unfortunately Premium App or Data Mesh are not options for me.
