Contact validation in Web Forms
I have a web form for users who do not have access to the full Smartsheet. Part of the web form is an entry for a contact who has access to Smartsheet. I have alerts built into this list based on specific rules.
The users of the web form sometimes mispell the contact name. The contact then does not receive the notification.
Is there a way to make a validation rule for contact entry within the web form?

Hi Syphers,
Since you have Alerts setup for contacts I assume that there is only a certain number of them. If that is true then you can enter the names as a drop down that web form users can choose from to alleviate the error of misspelling.
Thank you,
Brandy

To do this: right-click on the column header and Choose "Edit column properties" (The last item in the list). Then enter your list of names or email addresses in the values. This list will be available via the drop-down. See screenshot.

I added and this helps for those users who have access to the list but it doesn't look like it validates the web form. Thoughts?

Aha! I didn't think the drop down text would translate to contacts once it was back on the sheet. I will try this!

Unfortunately, if the column is a Contact List column the value in the drop down will not be visible to Web Form users.
It would need to be a Dropdown List column type with the names of contacts populated in the dropdown. Alerts could then be set up to Alert Sally@outlook.com when "Sally" is chosen from the dropdown list and submitted to the sheet via webform.
Thanks,
Brandy

Ack, that is true. I totally missed the context of the web form! Sorry! I see you are suggesting a notification be set up that emails a particular email address when their name is set up in the drop down. Good solution!

Hi everyone!
Good news - in our next release (currently scheduled for May 30 but subject to change) the contacts (in the contact column) in the webforms will be available, this should help with your use case.
