Sheet Summary Not Updating Automatically

I have a formula in my sheet summary that uses countif and today (). However the data doesn't automatically update unless I open the sheet and click on the sheet summary. Then I can see the data change in the sheet summary fields. Why do I have to go into the sheet and sheet summary for updates to take place? Why doesn't it automatically update?

This has to do with the TODAY() function - there are certain actions that allow the function to recognize what the date is. Opening the sheet is one of those actions!

If you don't want to open the sheet, there are other ways to create that "refresh". Here's another Community thread that outlines one of these solutions:
