Using IF formula in Contact column - displaying name only -- not contact info

Hello community!

I am attempting to use an IF statement in a contact column to insert a vendor name depending on the company name in the associated row.

=IF(Company1 = "Hospitals", "Vendor Name1", "Vendor Name2")

The correct names are displaying, but it is name only -- not a true contact (no email address).

I can enter the email address in the formula instead of first and last name, but then it only displays that -- not the vendor's name.

A contact record should have name, plus email address. These are vendors that are already contacts in our system.

How do I get an actual contact to display? Is this possible?

Try adding the contact with the correct name and email and then use that cell as the answer in the IF formula.

Unfortunately, it's not possible at the moment to see the name and the email (visible) at the same time, but it's an excellent idea!

I only see the first and last name. No email address.

Hi Andree,

Yes, that makes sense -- I should create a contact column and add my contacts there to reference in the formula in the vendor column. It works, BUT, how do I copy and paste so that the first reference changes, but the last 2 do not?

=IF(Company1 = "Hospitals", Contacts1, Contacts2)

Company1 should change to Company2, 3, etc for each row, but Contacts1, Contacts2 should remain the same. In Excel, I could add a "$" operator in front of the Contacts references to mark it as an absolute reference. Is there something similar in Smartsheet?

I will submit an enhancement request for the contact option mentioned earlier.

Ah nevermind. I figured it out. I was missing a "$" .
