Use Zapier to populate a column based on the date a comment was added
Hi everyone,
I am trying to use Zapier to add the date to a row that reflects when a comment was last added in that row.
I thought I got it up and working, but ran into an error when I moved from testing to implementation.
I used the "New Comment in Smartsheet" trigger and returned the Results Modified at by referencing the "Parent ID" as the Row ID. The problem is, the Parent ID does not adjust based on new rows/comments, so once implemented it would not return a usable row ID.
Zapier support told me to try and use the Row Updated trigger as that allows the Original ID field to be pulled in for the Row ID.
Anyone know how to make this zap?
Thanks

My apologies, I'm not that familiar with how to create zaps in Zapier... you may want to post in their Community (see here).
To do something similar from directly within Smartsheet, what if you set up a workflow that has the trigger, when a Comment is Added , copy the row to another sheet? You could then use a cross-sheet formula to grab the MAX date of row creation (system column) in the other sheet, based on a specific value (the Row ID?) and return that in this sheet as a sort of time-stamp. I think Andrée has come up with a similar solution when looking to lock in a date (see here).
Let me know if that makes sense and will work for you, or if you have any questions about it.
Cheers,
Genevieve

Thanks Genevieve, I basically set up the system you described as a work around.
