Hello, is there any way at all to chart alpha (not numeric) data in Smartsheet dashboards?

e.g. I would like to make a pie chart with the percentage of projects that show "In Progress" or "Not Started". I seem to only be able to list the actual project/task titles (some are long) as labels, which is not very practical.

Oh. I didn't realize you were using an actual metrics widget. I was under the impression you were trying to create a chart.

Set up a table similar to how I have above, and you can use COUNTIFS formulas to pull your counts. Then you can use this consolidated data in your widgets.

You would need to create a separate metrics table and use COUNTIFS functions to grab the count for each of the different statuses. Then you can use this metrics grid for your chart.

Hi Paul, thanks for the response. I see that the metrics grid has a row limit... unfortunately the project sheet I'm working with is rather large :/ but I appreciate the input; if Smartsheet is able to increase that limit I imagine that this would work great.

I'm not sure what limitations you are referring to, but you shouldn't be reaching any limits when creating metrics if they are a summary of the main data.

Using your original post as an example, you should only need two rows and two columns.

ColumnA..........ColumnB

In Progress..............#

Not Started.............#

What I am running into is the 100 cell limit. We have a column, "Status" on the project sheet. I tried shift-selecting all of the cells that I wanted to be a part of the metric (382 in this case), and it kicked back an error. Is there a way to accomplish this without adding another summary column to the sheet?
