How do I create time of day columns?
I need to have a time start, time end, and total time columns in my project. Is this possible?
Thank you!

It is possible, but it is going to require some helper columns and formulas to calculate the total time, and the start and end times will have to be manual entry.
A few questions:
Are you using 12 hour or 24 hour?
Will a colon be included in the time?
Will you be including seconds or just hours and minutes?
How do you want your total time output to look?

Good day Paul,
I'm happy to use whatever format will work. I only need hours and minutes.
Fingers crossed! - Iris

They can all work. They just involve different variations depending on your needs and preferences. You tell me what you want, and I'll pull my notes based on that.

Thank you Paul,
This is what my columns look like right now:
Start Date | Start Time | End Date | End Time | Total Time Actual | Total Time Budget | Percentage Complete
I only need to have HH:MM for all times. The Parent rows will track total for all days and all tasks.
Does this make sense to you?
Thanks again for your help,
Iris

And you are looking for a formula for the [Total Time Actual] column?

Yes, but also to enter the time in the correct format. I cannot find the time format, only date.

Unfortunately Smartsheet does not current support time or time formats outside of the system generated Last Modified or Created columns.
For the Start and End times, you would have to manually enter the data. The Total Time can be calculated using a series of formulas.
Are you using 12 or 24 hour?

I will use 24hr, would probably make calculations easier?
Thank you,
Iris

Using 24 hour time simply skips a step. If you were to use 12 hour time, the first step would be converting it to 24 hour.
I will pull my notes together and get something to you.

HERE is a published sheet that contains some formulas. The last column called [Difference] is going to be the display column.
The first 5 rows are different examples for tests I ran while tweaking the formulas and row 6 (grey) contains the formulas themselves.
Please take a look and let me know how it works out for you. You should be able to copy/paste from the sheet as needed.

Do you have the formulas for 12 hr time?
-
@Larissa Motts Below is a link to a thread that has multiple time based solutions in it. All of the solutions that start with 12 hour times will have the conversion formula in them and there is a comment as well (although I can't remember which page it is on) that has the 12h to 24h conversion formula.

This is really great. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, I'm getting #UNPARSEABLE on all calculated columns and I'm not sure why. I think you'd have to request access to view...
