INDEX/Match Problem Across Sheets

Frank S.
Frank S. ✭✭✭✭✭✭

Here is my problem:

I'm trying to compare dates on sheet A to a list of dates on Sheet B and if the dates match, fill in a number on sheet A.

If I move the data over to sheet A and use this formula works fine:

=INDEX([Column9]:[Column9], MATCH([Column4]@row, [Column8]:[Column8], 0))

When I use a cross sheet reference I get no match

=INDEX({Value I want Sheet B}, MATCH([Column4]@row, {List of Dates Sheet B}, 0))

When I select the sheet reference I'm selecting the entire column.

What am I doing wrong?

    Hi @Frank.Smith

    I hope you're well and safe!

    Can you describe your process in more detail and maybe share the sheet(s)/copies of the sheet(s) or some screenshots? (Delete/replace any confidential/sensitive information before sharing) That would make it easier to help. (share too, andree@workbold.com)

    I hope that helps!

    Be safe and have a fantastic weekend!

  • Hi @Frank.Smith

    The formula is built correctly so the error is likely coming from the column type or the data itself. It would be helpful to see screen captures of both sheets, but please block out any sensitive data.

    Can you also confirm how the dates are being populated in both Column4 in this current sheet and the {List of Dates Sheet B} column in the other sheet? Are these manual inputs, or do you use a formula to create the date?

    Thanks!

    Good morning @Genevieve P. ,

    Here is some more information:

    My index column is a number, which is what I want to display.

    My match is a date and my match column is a date.

    What I'm trying to accomplish is how many times did this occur on a particular date.

    I can get it to work if I copy my dates and make them text/numbers but if I use dates it does not work.

  • Hi @Frank.Smith

    Thank you for clarifying! So the issue here is that the MATCH doesn't work because one half of the match is an actual date value, but the other half has the value entered as text.

    How are the dates are being populated in both Column4 in this current sheet and the {List of Dates Sheet B} column in the other sheet? Are these manual inputs, or do you use a formula to create the date?

    @Genevieve P.

    Column 4 is being populated via a formula and {List of Dates Sheet B} is also populated via a formula.

    Can you copy/paste the formulas here?

    It's likely that one formula outputs the value as a date, but the other may output the value as text, which is why you can't find a match.

    @Genevieve P.

    Formula Column 4: =IFERROR(VLOOKUP([Column2]@row, [Column3]:[Column3], 1, false), [Column2]@row) Column properties = date

     {List of Dates Sheet B}: =IFERROR(INDEX(DISTINCT(COLLECT({PEBT TFS Defects Range 1}, {PEBT TFS Defects Range 1}, ISDATE(@cell))), [Row #]@row), "") Column Properties = date

    I finally got it to work.

    One of my feeder columns properties was not set correctly. Once I set all the column properties the same it is working correctly.

    Thanks to everyone for your help.
