Set a Default Sort Order for a Sheet?

How can I do this? I need to arrange a specific view for my datasheet (such as Date Entered - Ascending, for example) and save it as the default view so the sheet always appears that way whenever I or any administrator opens it.

This has nothing to do with reports, please don't say I want a report. I want to customize the view of the sheet itself--and not just for the current session, but persistently.

Have you tried sorting by the columns you need and saving?

Right click on any column and select Sort Rows...

Yes, but it only seems to work for the current session. When I reopen the sheet later, it's back to the old view and sort order.

It makes no sense that this is not possible.

Here is my use case. I have a sheet with a form. Other people fill out the form which populates SOME of the information for each record and I complete the rest of the fields later. I receive an alert each time a new record is added. I want to click on the link in the alert email and see the new record at the top of the sheet so that I can easily find it and update it. (Another nice option would be to have the alert include a link to ONLY that record, to make it easy to update that record.)

Everyone else accesses the information in the form via a report.

@Mark Salamon You can have the form automatically populate in the top row of the sheet instead of at the bottom of the sheet.

@Paul Newcome Thanks. Sorry to take so long to reply. That is possible with a regular form. What about using Dynamic View. The setting for forms to add the row to the top does not seem to be a setting for dynamic view forms.
