Adding more than 3 categories to PMO template
Hi there!
I need to add additional categories beyond the 3 that are pre-built in the PMO template. I can add a category to the intake form and add a column in portfolio metrics but I'm getting stuck on the formula to have it reference back to the project intake sheet. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! My web search is coming up short....

Hey @mhinkley
Thanks for clarifying where you're stuck! Here are the steps to add a 4th Category (that you would repeat for other categories).
- Add to the Column Properties
2 - Add the new column with the column name in the first row in your Portfolio Metrics sheet
3 - The for the formulas, take the formula in Category 3 and drag-fill it over to the right. This will update it to look at your new column title instead of Category 3:
You can do that with all the formulas down the column, drag them over one:
Let me know if that works for you!
Cheers,
Genevieve

Hey @mhinkley
The template set has a link to the instructions, see here!
There's a section that explains how to add new Categories:
There are gifs in the instructions linked above that help explain the steps. It sounds like you may be missing this part:
C. Referencing your category edits, replace the column headers and the corresponding cells in Row 1 in the Portfolio Metrics Sheet. Doing so will enable the metrics to pull correctly for each category. Be sure to use exact spelling.
Cheers,
Genevieve

Thank you for responding! I've done that for the three categories that are already pre-built into the PMO. I need to add more than one is already pre-built. I can add a 4th category to the form and create a column for it but the formulas aren't carrying over and the 4th category isn't rolling up into the program management dashboard. Any ideas?

@Genevieve P. - Yes it did! Thank you so much! It was the formula fill that was giving me the headache and it was such an easy fix. Appreciate you taking the time, thank you again!!

I can add a category and get the formulas to work but on the project rollup inside the PMO it does not include all four categories inside the number of projects by status. It includes the first three I renamed but not the fourth. Thanks for any guidance. I love the Smartsheet's PMO by the way.

Hi @tscott
Are you referring to the Portfolio Metrics sheet I screen captured above? Or a different area with formulas?

No, the portfolio metrics is ok it’s just not reporting the fourth categories here. I have included a pic. There should also be a category called High Complexity Projects.

Ah yes! On the Dashboard - thank you for clarifying.
Everything on the Dashboard will pull from an underlying sheet or report. Now that you've updated the formulas, you just need to update where the Dashboard widgets are looking.
If you click on that Widget you can Edit the source for this chart and include the new count/column as well.
