I understand that the answer to all of this low-hanging fruit is to submit an enhancement request, but Smartsheet's enhancement request feature is basically a waste of our time. They know that this is needed.

If they were serious about managing enhancement requests, they would give us an easier way to submit them.

Is there a way for us to just upvote already submitted enhancement requests? It is evident this request has already been submitted multiple times over the past two years. We also really need the ability to have the grid view auto-sort or at least a way to write a rule to make this happen.

The risk is too high that someone will forget to sort and think the sheet is broken or miss a project without auto-sorting.

Is there an update on if and when automated sorting will be added? It's actually a pretty big roadblock in our process as well. We desperately need to be able to automate default sorting in both the Grid and the Card View's Swim Lanes by rules for everyone that works in our sheet. It's hard to believe with all the responses here in agreement it hasn't been considered or worked on in over two years since this was originally posted.

I would really like Smartsheets to provide this functionality. It is an easy item that Excel has had for many years. Saving filter types should be just as easy as having a saved sort function.

+1 for auto sorting of rows. Without it users must constantly update/sort dynamic view. They should open dynamic view with automatic sorts already done.

Hi @Petra and @johngraham78,

I created a browser extension that adds automatic sorting into SmartSheet. You can can click here to download the browser extension.

Then click "Sort Rows":

Then click "Sort Automatically":

Then the browser extension will automatically sort whenever the data changes. The browser extension also saves your sort settings, so that you don't need to manually re-enter them.

Also, this automatic sorting works with filters. So if you enable automatic sorting, and then add a filter, the extension will automatically sort the data even with a filter enabled.
