I have a "closed" check box in my sheet. Based on that being checked, I want to automatically fill a closed date in another column. Not sure how to do that. Help! Thanks
Currently, this is not possible in smartsheet. Many users have requested some sort of timestamp functionality but at present, it is not possible. You can capture last modified date for anything in the row, but if someone edits the data in the row after the ticket closes the date would change. Look at adding a system column for last modified.
+1 for this!
Hi Mattias,
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment.
As a workaround, you could use a third-party service like Zapier for this scenario. Is that an option for you?
Have a fantastic week!

Hello Andrée!
Not really a good solution in this case.
I have created a risk analysis sheet within a project and what I would like to have is a timestamp on the checkbox which marks the risk as cleared. Wouldnt want to complicate this with another service and pay for this also. The system column (date modified) is a bit of a blunt tool in this case, but I suppose that has to be the solution for the moment.

Mattias
Ok.
The Date Modified columns seem like the solution for now. When the checkbox is checked, you could also have automation that would lock the row to prevent changes.
Hope that helps!
Yes, until the timestamp possibility is in place that would be the work around.
Thanks for the tip regarding the automation setup, keep forgetting those goodies... Just have to remember to check the box as the last action then!
Happy to help!
Yes, automation is a big goodie bag.
Is there a way to maybe do an IF calculation where the output is the current date? I have a similar issue where I want to reflect the date if one of 3 options is selected in a dropdown. I'm not sure if there is a way to generate the current date as the output of an IF statement...
Hi @Robin Sugiura
Yes, please have a look at my post below with a method I developed.

Would that work/help?
I hope that helps!
Be safe and have a fantastic weekend!

It seems like every single feature I'm looking to use all ends with "It's not possible" despite consistently seeing many others requesting these features. This is very disappointing. I'm starting to think Smartsheets is a very rigid software with features that doesn't allow for much flexibility of use.
This is quite an old thread, but I figured I'd chime in anyway for someone looking for a workaround on this type of problem. This doesn't quite solve the time stamp issue without checking cell activity, but I always use a "Record a Date" automation. With the original question in this thread, you could set up your automation to say when your "closed" checkbox is checked, record a date in a "closed date" column.
Has anyone found a workaround for sharing Smartsheet reports externally without giving access to internal data? I currently have to download the data and transfer it onto excel to create a pivot table for our client and I want to find an easier way to do so. I also already create a dashboard for our client, but I wanted…
Hello team! Hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season. I am trying to set up an automation that will send an email reminder one time when Next Update Date = 60 days, then another automation at 30d, etc. The key is I only want it to send the reminder one time when Next Update threshold is reached. Is this possible?…
I have an automation setup to escalate to managers when a step goes beyond 2 days. I have that titled as Escalation for Purchasing, Escalation for Planning, etc. In my trial run, 3 out of 6 showed up as Reminder: New part number request log ( this is the name of the sheet) The only thing we could see was that the ones that…
