Saved Filters?

Is there any option to save a filter setup view.

After setting a filter, if I remove all filters, I would like to be able to re-apply without going through the process again.  Ideally I would like to save a numebr of combinations, similar to setting up a report.

I would use reports, but I need to show the parent rows.

Thanks

 BC

BC - this is not something that is currently available but we are tracking feedback for this request. I will submit your feedback to our product team. Thanks for the question!

I would like to see, not only filters saved, but also which columns are hidden and the position of the displayed columns.

I am trying to use smartsheet to schedule and track maufacturing operations and have defined a fairly large number of columns.

It would be useful if each type of user could set up a "view" of the data that is most useful to them, one time, and then access that "view" the next time they are using the sheet. It can take several minutes to set up a sheet the way you want to see the data and it would be nice to be able to save the setup.

For example, there could be an "Engineering View", a "Purchasing View", and a "Manufacturing View".

I know there are "workarounds" such as cell linking and reports, but I am already using cell linking to pull off summary tasks levels and I would like to keep things as simple as posssible.

I also know that, to some extent, the last "view" used, gets saved between sessions, but it doesn't seem that the "view" saved is linked to a specfic User ID, but only to the last user to access the sheet.

    Thanks.

Chuck - reports can be used to do what you are asking.  Is there a specific reason why you are not using them? You could set up a report for each group where they have a custom view of columns and rows. Reports do not count toward your sheet count and once they are set up, will update automatically to always show the correct data.

Travis, thank you for your reply.

You are correct, I could use reports.

Making changes in the sheet seems to be faster, easier and cleaner, especially since some of the changes will affect a Gantt chart. It also seems easier to explain to a first time user.

Maybe a report is easier then it seemed when I first tried. I will try it again.

    Thanks for your help.

I got the same need to save filters (or at least export filtered view to excel, pdf, etc).

Reports don't work because my sheet has lots of parents task/issues categorically

Hi Jeff - you can export filtered views by applying the filter to your sheet, save, then export to Excel, PDF, etc.

Hey Travis, any word on if/when saved filters will become a feature? It would be useful for me and my team. Thanks!

Edit: And the reason why we don't want to use reports is that we still want to see the Gantt chart.

Mike - I dont have any information about when or if this will be implemented but I do know our product team is tracking feedback for this request and I will add your vote for you.  You can track what we are currently working on by checking out our product roadmap: http://www.smartsheet.com/product-roadmap

Good news about reports - the ability to view Gantt charts and calendars in reports is scheduled to be implemented in our release this Friday (August 7th).

I too think this would be a great feature. We use SS for lots of projects but need to filter by due date, etc.  Hope it gets added.

I have been searching for this feature, only to find out it's not possible. I would really like to be able to do this. We have a bunch of countries in one sheet, and we can filter out which ocuntry we need in a column. I regularly (almost every 30 minutes), need to remove all my filters so i can do something for a coworker for one of their countries. I then need to go through and filter for 13 countries, among various other columns, in order to get back to "my view", which takes a couple minutes to folter everything correctly.

It would be super helpful if I could save some "default filter", or multiple filters would be even better

Bridger, have your tried using reports? They can offer a customizable view of a sheet which can act similar to a saved filter. Reports are fully editable and any changes you make in the report will be reflected in the sheet.

Here's more information on reports: http://help.smartsheet.com/customer/en/portal/articles/522214-creating-reports

  • That works well enough I guess. A little clumsy, and then i need to have dozens of reports if I want to be able to filter like I want to be able to, but it's soemthing I guess. thanks!

  • Agree. I would use saved views. Reports are just lists of things and don't give enough information.

Just a +1 - seems like a very useful feature. Reports are fine in some use cases but certainly not all, and you of course can't then filter the Report!

Nev, reports are essentially a big filter... just use the report builder to filter out what you dont want to see!
