I have been a Smartsheet subscriber for many years and use Gantt charts extensively for construction, fit-out, and engineering project scheduling.
One recurring issue significantly affects productivity when reviewing project schedules with predecessor relationships.
When zooming out on the Gantt chart to see the overall project flow, the predecessor row numbers displayed on the left side of the sheet do not scale proportionally with the view. The row numbers remain too small and difficult to read, making it challenging to trace dependencies and validate schedule logic across multiple activities.
As a result, reviewing predecessor links often requires continuously zooming in to identify a row number, then zooming back out to understand the schedule flow. A task that should take 30 minutes can easily take several hours when working with large project schedules containing many linked activities.
Suggested Improvement:
- Allow row numbers and dependency references to scale with the zoom level.
- Alternatively, provide an option to increase the size or visibility of row numbers independently.
- Consider adding a dependency tracing mode where predecessor and successor task numbers remain clearly visible regardless of zoom level.
For project managers, planners, engineers, and construction professionals who rely heavily on dependency logic, this small enhancement would have a major impact on schedule review efficiency and usability.
I hope the product team will consider this improvement. Thank you for continually developing and improving Smartsheet.
