Dear Smartsheet Community,
Over the past year, we've invested significantly in evolving table view into our next-generation sheet experience. Table view delivers all the core capabilities of grid view while offering meaningful improvements in performance, collaboration, and new functionality. Thank you for your ongoing feedback—we've read every submission, and your input has shaped our work. Our teams have prioritized and delivered performance gains, refined sheet spacing and padding, enhanced formula editing with cell-level capabilities, added a vertical grid line toggle, expanded common file menu operations, expanded accessibility support to WCAG 2.2 AA standards, and much more.
With 99% of grid view features in Free plan now supported by table view and the remaining in active development, we are ready to begin the process of transitioning from grid to table. As a result of this transition, we can begin to introduce new enhancements—including larger sheet support and longstanding feature requests like freeze rows or custom colors that are simply not feasible to deliver in grid view today.
Grid view will be removed from Free plans on July 29, 2026. Until that date, you will retain full access to grid view via the view switcher, giving you time to transition at your own pace and share feedback if you need to switch back to grid view for any reason. Below are additional details to help you through this transition.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Will I lose my data when grid view is removed?
A: No. Not at all. Your underlying sheet data remains safe and unchanged. Views in Smartsheet are simply different visual representations of the same data. Once grid view is removed, you can access your information through table view, board view, timeline view, or any other view in your Smartsheet instance.
Q: I use grid view every day. How do I prepare for this change?
A: We recommend exploring table view today. Switch your sheet to table view, familiarize yourself with the interface, and test your workflows to confirm they work as expected. You have until July 29, 2026, to make this transition at a comfortable pace. If you find features you rely on that aren't yet in table view, please share your feedback through our feedback forms—we want to ensure a smooth transition.
Q: How do I share feedback about table view?
A: When switching from table view back to grid, all users are asked to share what is prompting them to switch back to grid view. Please share your feedback! Working teams read every single piece of feedback that is submitted and follow up with many users to learn more and discuss their feedback. This enables you to partner with Smartsheet to resolve specific concerns or blockers that prevent you from working exclusively and successfully in table view.
Q: If I also have a seat on a paid plan (Pro, Business, or Enterprise), will I lose access to grid view?
A: Access to grid view will only be removed from sheets built & managed within Free plans. For now, grid view will remain available on any other paid plans where you hold a seat. However, we will be phasing out grid view across all plans later this year, and we'll send advance notice well before that change takes effect. You'll have plenty of time to prepare.
Q: Why remove grid view when there are features that are still missing from table view today?
A: The remaining features used by 99% of Free plan users today will be available in Free plans prior deprecation, including:
- Sheet summary
- Highlight changes
- Update requests
- Print sheet
- Sheet publishing
Q: Why not keep both grid and table views indefinitely?
A: Table is the new scalable grid that can support new features and large sheets. With table view, we can now ship new features faster—specifically, performance improvements at scale, new integrated AI-features, and many community-requested enhancements that would not be possible to support in grid view.
Q: Where can I learn more about table view?
A: We have comprehensive resources available:
Q: What if I need additional support during the transition?
A: Our support team is here to help. Reach out through your support channel with any questions, and we'll guide you through the transition process.
Best regards,
Smartsheet Product Team
