Form input validation

I have created a simple form to collect attendee information in order to provide certificates to the attendees. A common error in the past has been mis-typed email addresses. My previous form app allowed logic to ask the user to confirm their email address by entering it a second time, and confirming that both entries were the same.

Is there any way to apply this logic to a Smartsheet form?

Unfortunately, it's not possible in the form at the moment, but it's an excellent idea!
Please submit an Enhancement Request when you have a moment

Here's a possible workaround or workarounds

Add the two fields to the form, and use a formula in the sheet that populates them to check whether the two fields/cells are the same. If they are, do nothing; if they aren't, use a Workflow to send an update request asking the submitter to correct it.

Does that make sense?

If they mis-type their email address and the fields don't match, the email requesting a correction would have to go to both email addresses entered…….. I have submitted an enhancement request as suggested.

The email address informs additional automations (certificate of attendance creation and delivery, survey link email and marketing newsletter opt-in). It would be much more productive to have the information entered correctly the first time and prevent the form from being submitted unless the fields match.

My particular use case is frequently as a first-time touch-point with a potential customer. I would hate for the first communication from my company to be "please correct your information", or a delay in follow-up due to a data entry error.

Yes, I agree; it would be much better if it were checked in the form before submitting.

Other workarounds/options

Add a checkbox or similar where they check the box afterthey've double-checked the email.
Add information that if they haven't received a confirmation within a certain amount of time, they should check their spam folder, then resubmit or reach out.
