Time to address the elephant…it's gotten pretty quiet in here.

The last thing we want is our community of SmartBuilders making great things without an active community to collaborate and develop in.

That's changing. The group is getting a revamp!

We're talking exploring the full developer surface, not just one corner of it. API, SDKs, webhooks, automations, integrations, and the AI agent tools you know and love.

Most importantly we want to build this with you rather than for you. So here's your chance to share with us what you want to see. A topic that's missing. Resources that would actually help. What your ideal AI & Developer community looks like.

Create a public change log and what's next for the API development
Do not sent away to Github or stack overflow API development questions (common practice)
Keep improving the documentation (it is not a single one-time effort)
Share sample code (new section) for the new developers
Create showcases of code developed by the community
1. for instance: Mapping column names to cell id's
2. Exponential delay and retry management
3. best practices when managing bulk calls
4. pagination (this is hard to grasp and hard to solve for many people)
5. how to implement webhooks (with grpahs and all)
Explain deeper the mechanics of the endpoints (times, queues, prioritization)
Better error messages in the responses

Just to mention a few, I have way more ideas, but this is what it came to my mind in 5 min, lol.

I have been searching for ways to download a "Smartsheet Inventory" so I can study what was built for a certain sheet, mainly automation workflows that I heard was stored at the API layer. Having this information could help speed up development efforts and provide a repository of design strategies and tactics.

Excited to see this community getting renewed.

One thing I'd love to see is a comprehensive "enterprise readiness" package for MCP, APIs, AI agents, and integrations. In large organizations, the technical implementation is often the easy part. The bigger challenge is getting through architecture review, cybersecurity, legal, privacy, compliance, and identity management reviews before a proof of concept can even begin.

Every time I want to explore a new capability, I'm asked many of the same questions:

How is data secured?
What permissions are required?
How is authentication handled?
What data is stored and where?
What logging and auditing capabilities exist?
How are permissions enforced?
What is the impact if access is revoked?
How does the solution align with enterprise governance requirements?

Having a centralized resource with security documentation, architecture diagrams, data flow examples, common IT review responses, and governance guidance would significantly accelerate adoption for many organizations.

I'm particularly interested in exploring AI-powered PM Assistant and PM Coordinator use cases with Smartsheet, but getting the right information into the hands of IT, security, and compliance teams is often the first hurdle.

Looking forward to seeing where this community goes and learning from others who are navigating similar challenges.

Maybe this already exists, but I would love to be able to share a cheat sheets or quick reference materials for some of the great new(er) features across my team, especially if there are some plain language explanations of features and how to use them. Example: most of my department had no idea switching to Table View opened up the AI formula help, sheet capacity, etc. The AI formula feature has been exponentially helpful in some of my more complicated formatting.

I would love to see AI (especially for charts/ graphs) also provide a metric sheet so that if something breaks, I can more readily dig in to see what/ where the break occurred within the data/ formulas. While the AI can bring in some amazing looking charts and graphs from my data, I have found that, at least for now, it does not always know how to fix it is a data break occurs. I put this through the paces on purpose to see what the AI would do, it has failed so far, but I believe having an actual metric sheet sheet that corresponds with the data being charted would prove incredibly useful. Since I was purposefully putting it through the paces, I knew exactly where the break was, but again, it did not know, or seem to understand how to fix the break.

I also agree with @T C - having a centralized resource with security documentation, architecture diagrams, data flow examples, common IT review responses, and governance guidance would significantly accelerate adoption for many organizations.

I would also like to see how others are handling things when their IT departments are pushing back and saying "no" or "not now" to MCP.

I may be asking for the moon, but:

Developer test / mock integration data
1. One thing I would like to see in the rebuilt dev community is a dev test lab with realistic sample data and mock integrations.
2. A lot of the solutions I have designed to build involve bi-directional syncs with other systems through webhooks, API, power automate, or custom automation. The difficult part of prototyping is needing access to another app or PROD data just to validate the integration.
  1. It would be useful to have downloadable or hosted synthetic datasets representing common systems.
3. Even better would be a lightweight mock API environment where devs could simulate API requests, authentication, pagination, webhooks, rate limits, and common errors without need a live third party integration.
  1. I would love to be able to prototype a Mock CRM > api/webhook > smarthsheet > automation > mock downstream system

Were you able to fix it on your own? Currently I'm not having AI build our dashboards since they tend to have data breaks and in my experience so far it seems unable to fix it. I will continue to build out my own metric sheet for any data and do my own charts. I believe there is potential, but it still needs work and I will continue to test it and put it through the paces to help it learn.

One thing that I have observed as a roadblock for people who are not too tech-savvy is that they compare Smartsheet's output vs MS PowerPoint, in terms of aesthetics. They hesitate to use Smartsheet because of the limited ways they can design the stakeholder-facing dashboards, especially the Gantt charts. Hopefully, we can get some jazzy designs int he future

API connection with google services is easy to connect to, however, attempting to automate a query to data push from GBQ to populate data does not work at all. The API runs and says its good to go but no data populates. A verifiable way to generate this data would be amazing at a corporate level.

I second this! I haven't seen anything like this available yet, but I think it would be incredibly helpful. As we're encouraging our teams to become more familiar with and actively use the AI features, having quick reference guides, cheat sheets, or plain-language explanations would go a long way in supporting adoption.

I've also found that some of the most useful features aren't always obvious unless someone points them out, just like the AI Formula Assistant in Table View. A centralized resource highlighting new features, practical use cases, and tips for getting started would be a great asset for both new and experienced users.
